Silver Arowana and tank size ! ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just thought id post to say that from what id heard red tail giant gourami's only get like 18 inches

rfgg i think max out at 20in

silver arow.......
I would say that the 4ft tank would be ok for a few months and a 6x2x2 would be the very minimum size tank that would be ok for a silver arow.

how ever with the problem about the oscar is that cichlid are like people, each one can be very diffrent from each other eg........ in the past i kept a tilapia buttikoferi and he got on fine with all other fish i put him with, however now i have 2 small tilapia buttikoferi that are evil twins and can't be kept with anything!!!! lol.

I would say it would be ok but a risk none the less.. you know your oscar if he is aggresive towards your ggrf then i would say not..

it may be a plan to pick up a tank splitter (if things go wrong) or take your oscar back (i know oscars are a cool fish and tend to become part of the family)

good luck!!!

Thanks for the info from all of you's , but if anyone else has anything to say please post .

I must be lucky really , as i have a very nice claim Osacr and never goes for the GRFG in a aggrevise manner , the ony time i have sceen them both fight is just a little over food when they just push each other away from the food , apart from that i have not noticed any fighting but is that just cos they are still young ? Will the Osacr or even the GRFG get any more aggrevise toward each other or any other fish tank i might put in the tank like a Silver Arowana which i would love to get .

a silver aro will eventually get WAY to big for a 6x2x2 tank, and an oscar and red tail giant gourami(rtgg) are some of the worst tankmates for a small silver. ive had a 8" silver get killed by a 5" oscar, and rtgg's sometimes get pretty nasty with aro's. id wait and atleast find a 10-12"aro, and be prepared to purchase a tank that will be atleast 8x3x2 for life.

ok thanks , i am going up today saying that i havnt been to bed yet , so ill be going up today about 4pm Uk time and having another look at some fish to get some ideas on what to stock the 4foot tank with when i change the fish over to the 6foot tank in the next few weeks and maybe buy a fish or two aswel . I really wanted the Silver Arowana but no having secand thoughts over it , was told that if i really wanted to i could push to get a coulpe of catfish to go in the tank with my current fish to help clean up the bottem and all , Synodontis thing as long as i have a lot of hiding places , which i do :) . LOl so maybe ill get acouple of them !

What i am looking for the 4foot tank is when i change over fish is a few largeish Cichlids to go in there with maybe a Pleco or something like that .
