Hi, my husband had a silver arowana approx 4 months and it was around 8 or 9 inches in size. Yesterday evening we noticed it standing on its head briefly only twice. So assumed swim bladder issues so we moved it to a smaller tank over night but woke this morning to a dead arowana :-( water levels were tested recently, all good results. Water changes very often. Great filtration. Tank size is 8ft by 2ft by 2ft. He ate a good diet and was always a good eater. No new fish were added in months so were really not sure what has caused his death. I did hear him splashing about at night for the last three nights, could an injury have killed him? Any advice would be great in case any other fish get ill.

Sounds like something was spooking it at night and it beat it brains out jumping in an attempt to escape what ever was bothering it. Any recent thunder storms, do you own at cat or dog, anyone coming in or leaving later than normal, anything different you can think of?
I'd say jumping or bashing into glass as well What are the other fish? Any night dwellers I.e. Catfish, knife?
Yes we have a clown knife fish. Other fish are pangasias sharks, sailfin plec, and tinfoil barbs. So more likely an injury instead of disease then? Thanks for the reply
Nothing external would have bothered him. No pets or people in that room at night. Just a peaceful dimly lit room. But we did have a dreadful storm about a week ago but that was in day light hours and I didn't notice an sudden movements at the time.
That really sucks given that you seem to be doing everything right. How big are your sharks? I have read they get very large (like 47 inches long, though I assume yours are smaller). Were you possibly a bit over crowded? I know you have an 8 foot tank, but just trying to think of possible reasons. Many large active fish might have bothered him even in a tank that size.
