Hi, this may possibly be a dumb question with an obvious answer... BUT im askin it anyways. My silver arowana's (about 4 inches) pectoral fins (i think?) have been changing from clear to black everytime i do a water change. im doing about 30-40% water change weekly. and it has done this everytime. is it stress or what?

This is a new one for me.

Sounds like a temperamental/stress change, though I've not noticed it in arowana before.

Have you tested your tap water?

This is awkward this is the first time I have ever heard of this...I want to see some pics to see how it looks..

there are no stupid questions, only stupid people, lol

never heard of this, either...pics would be great (i know, already said before)

I've only seen this happen on young Silver Aros, my guess is stress. If the pectorial fin turn dark gray/black, it's stressed. That's just my opinion. I don't notice it on big Silver Aros.

It's normal for them when stressed out to turn the pectoral fins black or sometimes shaded of dark blue. This happens in asian aros and jardinis as well. Usually when they are juvenile at 10" or smaller. I only seen this when newly introduced, getting bullied, overly feed, recent water change, ph change and other stress level that might occur. It's an indication that it's stressed out. Sub-adult to adults aros don't get them.

Hi All,

I am facing the similar thing but its not stress of water change for me. I have 2 4" silver arowana babies which i got 15 days ago. I have noticed that every morning when i turn on the lights their fin color is black and after 15-30 mins it changes back to normal. I am attaching a pic i took few mins back. Please let me know what can be done for this or is it Normal._DSC0202.jpg
