He meant the impossible growth rate :duh: By your theory I can turn a 3" to a 2' within a year...

I believe a Silver Arowana can reach 2' from 3" in 1 year. How I know cuz my friend grew a Silver Arowana from 3" to 24" within a year by feeding it alot of feeders everyday. It was grown in a 135gallon too. I remember it would eat at least 10+ good size feeders each day. It reached 30" within 2 years before it jumped out to it's death.

I also believe my biggest Silver Aro will reach 2ft very soon. Probabely by summer and by this August will be 1 year since they've been 1st purchased.

Yes if you keep a silver aro's belly full you can get from 3" to 24" within a year. That's above the average of 1-1.5" per month but not by much. Quickest growth I've seen claimed is sbuse's 21" in 10 months, if I remember correctly midnight's silver also had some crazy growth, but was explained by all the wild feeders it got to eat.

Seems though most the time the supposed growth rate is incorrectly reported because of peoples estimated fish length. In the thread that has been linked the OP stated 10" to near 24" in 4 months, by the end of the thread it was down to 19" and there is some question whether the 10" was actually 8" that was reported by the op in earlier threads.

Yes most ppl estimate measurements but I don't. I use a actual tape measure to measure my fish and either I actually risk and net them out to measure them or wait for the perfect moment of them chilling right against the glass then measure without spooking:).

LOL... if you go back to the thread you posted in early December, your 10" silvers looks to be longer then your 13" frontosa;)

The Frontosa measurment was an estimate and that's when I didn't have a tape measure yet. I traded it to my LFS recently and it actually turned out to be only 11" at the time. I can see the first picture I posted back then and it looks to be the Aro that looked longer then my Front was closer to the glass and the Front further away from the glass. I recall my Aros weren't longer then the front at that time but about the same length as in total length.

Yes, you're right bderick. My measurements were inaccurate cuz I didn't really measure him when I got him. Nor do I take him out of the tank for a perfect measurement. But I was only off by a couple inches. Still a very good growth rate. The pics speak for themselves. These fish grow very quickly to say the least.

btw, I got flamed for 'grossly overfeeding' him... lol

wow crazy growth rates. ill keep everyone updated on how fast mine grows. i got him at about 2.5-3" inches in jan. well see what size he is next year.

Really, are you unable to comprehend what was written in reply to you telling someone "Your aro should be growing more than an inch a month"?

Here is that reply, maybe read it again and try to comprehend.

No, that is not true. Average growth for a silver aro that has been sensibly fed is 1-1.5" per month. Just because you choose to grossly overfeed yours to get near three inches per month does not mean that silvers "should" grow that fast.

Unfortunately because of your feeding, you aro is quickly nearing the point of needing a new tank. If you keep up the amount your feeding, it is likely you aros growth rate will not slow down at 24" which is the norm for silvers. Your likely to have a 30" silver crammed in that tank of your's in just a few more months:eek:

BTW that was 5 months ago, are you still feeding all that food 3x a day. You finally came up with 19" as an exact measurement at that time how big is it now?

I can comprehend your response, but doesn't mean I agree with it. 1-1.5" per month seems under-average for silvers IME. Maybe for small silvers thats reasonable, but they really start growing fast around the 8" mark. Then slow down around 24". I suppose it really depends on whether they are babies, juvies, sub-adults, or adults. Growth rates seem to change depending on this. There is no one answer for the lifetime growth rate because it definitely changes.

My silver eats once a day now and he's 23-24". Slowed down around 18-20" and really bulked up.

These pics are from march 21st...
