Silver Arowana Info

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
keep in mind that sometimes, gradually increasing the tank for your fish is the best option. you dont have to actually put in a super huge tank as soon as you get it.

:iagree: my 8 in looks funny in a 270! hes happy though its like a friggin lake to him!

Assuming the 240g you are getting is 96" x 24" x 24" and a general rule for arowana being;

Tank size length 3x that of the aro and width/depth should be equal to that of the aro.

So with that said you could keep up to a 24" arowana. I have never owned a large jar, so I won't comment on keeping one bigger then 24" exept that they are not as flexible as silvers and may have trouble turning around if they get much larger then 24".

With a silver however, they are very flexible and can turn within about a 1/3rd of their body length. I think you could keep a silver up to 28-30" in a 24" wide tank. It could take anywhere between 5 to 10 years for a silver to grow to this lenth.

If you were to spend more on a 300g wide 96" x 30" x 24" with the extra 6" you should never have to move your silver to a bigger tank.

For 3 silvers providing they get along you would probably be ok in a 240g until they are 24" but eventually you are gonna need a 8' x 4' x 30" to keep them happy.

so we could assume that in a 240 gal tank. we can house a aro for about 3-4 or 4-5 years before it may outgrow the tank?

also, how big do black aro's get? and how long would i be able to house that in a 240 gal tank? any longer then the silver's?

There are many diff experiences with growth here on MFK one member has a 5 yo silver just shy of 30" while another has a 12yo at 28". One thing for sure they get to 24" quick, within first two years.

Black aros do grow slower but there again it varies, one member here had a 4 yo 30" black.

With a 240g tank your silver or black can live in it for quite a long time, how long though is ultimately up to you.
