Thanks guys (and girls) for the welcome and all the kind words. Been thinking about getting a MUCH larger tank and have been looking at these guys - http://www.midwestcustomaquarium.com/index.html
Anyone have any dealings with them or know about their tanks? Seems acrylic is the way to go for any tanks over 200gal. I'll be sure to post a pic of my aro in the oldest aro thread.

Wellcome!! And yes I think you do have the oldest silver in these here parts.

You don't need it, but I will nevertheless give you a word of caution when moving that beast..it is always very very complicated ( as I 'm sure you know ) to move mature aro's...sometimes the simple stress of the change will kill her..

having been where she is for 12 years, will you risk moving her?

i helped a friend move an aro bigger than mine from his pet store to his house...wasn't really that bad... a large pond/koi net and a new clean garbage can with a lid....drained water from the tank to the can, netted the fish...in he went....drove to his house and into the other tank he went...pretty uneventful..

Hope you don't mind OnTarget, but your silver seems to have dropeye on the right side. How long has he been like this? Is the left eye similarly affected? I'm curious because I also have a 22"-long yearling.

yes, he has DE on both sides, pretty even, has been that way for a long time...i guess not much can be done about it, people still not sure what causes it, probably genetics my guess

DE is part of Arodom...part of the mysthique!

its kind of thin and small for a 12 year old aro... but hey! u only feed it pellets, what can i ask for. as long as it is able to live that long were good with that!!!
congrats!! and good job reising him that long... i hope mine will be alive for that long too! :)

he might be a little on the short side, but he is thick as hell (i think), about 2" across his back. he doesn't just get pellets...he gets crayfish a couple of times a month also...does he really look thin to you? or anyone? maybe he is for that size? should he be thicker? how thick should he be at 27"?
