Hey guys I just nabbed a 180 gallon long tank. Sweet upgrade from my 75. Right now I have 2 Oscars (5 inches) and a Jack Dempsey. I recently bought a 4 inch Silver Arowana. Right now I have him in his own 29 gallon utill he gets a little bigger so the Oscars dont pick on him. The only problem is the Arowana will not eat anything. I have tried pellets, crickets, bloodworms, feeder guppies, and shrimp. He has been in the tank about 6 days. Any ideas?

give him some time...i would put him in the 75 for the time being...more room...and then when hes about 10inches put him in the 180

Ok well I was really wanting to sell the 75 pretty soon. Is there any problems to keeping him in the 29 till he is 10 inches +-

Aro are commonly hurt by small housing during their very long grow-out period. How wide and long is that 29g? 36" X 12" or so? A 10" Aro could get Drop-Eye and stunted barbels.
I 2nd the 75g, but if you want to keep him in the 29g until you pellet train him thats fine. Just get him out within the next month or two.

Thanks for the input guys, Im not really hurting for cash right now so I might just keep the 75. damn my apt is gonna packed. Will he have trouble finding food in a 75 by himself.

Also can you feed oscars and arowanas minnows caught in the wild after being quarantined for a week or so

You do know that a silver aro will out grow a 180g, right?

Yeah man I'm gonna get a 400 when I get a house next year. I'm sure he'll be fine for a year in a 180. I would get a 400 now but that on the second story scares me. I have concreate flooring but still.

Hey taylor.. Like everyone above i'd agree on the 75g tank for now and keep him alone.. at 4 inches aros are pretty fragile.. I'd recommend feeder guppies and blood worms for now.. Did you by any chance check with the lfs as to what he was being fed? you could start pellets a little later or just break em up into smaller pieces and let it float around.. as for him not eating. he is getting adjusted to the tank.. give him the time.. and if you have tank lights jus switch it off but leave a room light on at night time.. all the best with the aro.. cheers :) and oh dont try any wild caught stuff even if quarantined.. better safe than sorry..
