I have a small silver (8") and i was thinking about adding some tank mates with him. I was going to do a black ghost knife but dont want the risk of tail nipping of my aro. What would you suggest? Thanks

i dont see the ghost nipping the tail of the aro i have a 11" ghost in with 50-60 small 2-3" africans and all he does is hide..
i also have a jardini in with a clown knife and TSN....
if i was you i would start with a few clown loaches ....and then branch out from there

What is the size of the tank you are keeping this Silver Aro and the potential tank-mates? (I don't know if you have mentioned this somewhere else..)
The fish you want to keep with an Silver Aro is one which can potentially keep up with the growth-rate of the aro and isn't too aggressive.
I keep my Silver Aro with Gars. I have FL and Gator gars, but I only recommending getting FL gars of a size smaller than the Silver Aro. (So if your Aro is 8", the FL Gars can be 5-6".)
I have read that Gars attack "silver fish". But, I have these FL Gars with Silver Aro and 2 Silver Sharks (Bala Sharks) and they have never shown any aggression as of last 6 months.

You could start out with bottom feeders..Aro's are top feeders so they shouldn't mess with each other. Trial and error but be ready to separate just in case.

hi Tpriem21.. I have my 11" BGK with My 20" Silver Aro.. I had an African Knife first but he was aggressive and nipped my aros fins.. With this combo i thought the aro might whack the BGK but its been peaceful.. I've had it for quite some time now.. almost 9 months.. put a video below..

I was also thinking about loaches... i like that idea. Does anyone second the catfish? Could i do cats and loaches? Thanks
What about combinations of any of the mentioned above? What would you stay away from? I like the loach and cat ideas and bichirs... Any possible combos? I know i dont want to cram the tank... Im using a 125 now but am moving up soon as my aro grows. I also have a 40 long sitting empty fully cycled in case of emergency. Thanks
