David R, nice pics, got any more?

Can you view this album? http://s88.photobucket.com/albums/k186/glaxton/Holiday Fish Pics/
There's about 50 pics from visiting T1KARMANN in London, the Berlin Aquarium, and Singapore gardens and zoo (asian aros just casually swimming around in ponds outdoors...)

The Berlin Aquarium is fantastic, well worth visiting if you're ever in the area. That amazon display was one of 6 (IIRC) in a big semi-circle around the end of the building, there was an asian one (snakeheads, green aros, gourami etc), two SA (one with arapima, rtc, pacu etc and one with the silvers, p-bass, armartus, silver dollars and piranha), a brackish one and two salt water.

Sorry for the OT!!

he has two spots in his house one can fit a 8 x 2 x 2 and one a 6 x 3 x 3 of course the bigger the better but he simply doesnt have the space we just want opinions on which would be better because he is unsure which to get

The wider, the better. Silver arowanas are really flexible as they can turn up to about a third of their total body length BUT this does not mean you should do it. He can get the 6'x2'x2' but that would be very very temporary as they go fast to adulthood. Go for an 8'x3' as much as possible. Depth is not much of an issue.

As other have said neither tank is proper for long term. Each is limited either the 6 foot length or the 2 foot width/depth. Personally I would go with the 8 foot length and increase the height to 36" if possible. People will tell you that height is not that important, but a spooked arowana needs room to move and in that case more room is always beneficial.

Is there any way he could increase the 24" width to even say 30"? So a 8' x 2.5' x 3', not ideal but muck better then an 8x2x2'.

The 8 foot tank is 240 gallon; it will be less expensive than the 6 foot by 3 foot. If your friend has the means to do 8x2.5x2, that is a five hundred dollar addition if getting new. The cost is similar if he chooses a tall tank(that's what I have). In any case, I believe this will be good enough for silvers...and even though a very vocal group of keepers will tell you it is not enough, it is. 3 feet wide is better, but not necessary.
