I got an arowana about 2" and it seems to be doing fine. I got him eating beefheart and guppies but i was wondering what else i should feed him to grow quickly. I have frozen krill but he won't take it...any suggestions? thanks.
Get him eating RAW (Not cooked) shrimp or prawn, you can cut it into as small of pieces as you need. I insert a Hikari food stick in my pieces to add vitamins too.
The key to a healthy Aro is a varied diet. Here is some of the things I feed my 22" guy.
Shrimp, mussels, squid, feeders, crawfish, grass shrimp, crickets, Hikari Carnivore sticks.
As for growth, it varies depending on your tank size. I (before I knew any better) used to grow Silvers in a 55 and sell them when they got too big. They seemed to max out at 18-20" within 2 yrs and stay there for several years. But once I started to grow one in a "proper tank" 240 long 96x24x24 I grew this one from 3" to 18" in 1 yr with only 1-2 feeding per week.
The Aro is very happy in there and has seemed to almost stop growing at 18-22" and now is just getting fatter and thicker. He will eventually keep growing but I think it REALLY slows down after the first 20".
