Silver Arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My silver is 27'' in a 88.5''x43''x28''. I think that will be fine for him for life.

I would think a good size for a silver should be 7'x3' for a footprint.

Thank you all of you i've talked to the guy who will be making my new tank, were going with 100inchs long 40inches wide and 40inches tall my question is how thick would you guys recommend the acrylic glass? The only down side to going this big is i was told to go to a metal shop and have a frame built for the tank, but im actually very confused when it comes to sumps, and drain valves, with a tank this size i really dont know the difference between sumps, and the large canister filters for under a tank, my last question is for this size tank how would i determine the gallons by measurement for adaquate filters

100 x 40 x 40 in inches will have an actual volume around 620 gallons

take length x width x higth and divide that by 231(cubic inches per gallon) or you can check out the conversion feature on this website

My 450g is 96"x36"x30" and has 1.25" thick acrylic. Also, when you go over 96" in length they have to use a 10' sheet of acrylic as they don't make 9' sheets, so the price goes up significantly because you have to pay for a 10 foot piece. It might be worth it to have a 96" length priced out as well if those extra 4" aren't that important to you. Could save you a couple of hundred bucks. Actually, when I was pricing out a custom one, reducing from 108" to 96" at .75" thick acrylic was a savings of over $1000. Then I found the one I ended up with on Craigslist for half the price. I have no issues with bowing with the 1.25" acrylic. The only downside was none of the cheaper mag floats would work because of its thickness. Had to drop $200 on the mag float professional. Haha.

I have 6 holes in mine, they're all on the bottom, I would have preferred them on the back so there'd be less pipes running in the tank, but since they're on the bottom I was able to push the tank right next to the wall.

Sump's are fairly easy, water overflows from your tank into it, flows through your various stages of bio media and then is pumped back into your tank with a pump.

My somewhat complete 450g setup is in the link in my sig below.

My dimensions are 60inches long 18inches wide 24 inches tall, i was told it was a 164 gallon but i round to 150 when i mention it, currently my silver is 11 inches long im talking to the local fish shop who make custom tanks i would love measurements for a tank that would last its life time, including two oscars two jaguars and room for me to keep an open mind for adding new guys, thank you so much

Your tank is only 110 gallons, but will comfortably house your silver aro up to the 18-20" range

my tank is plywood with one glass front. I think this is the best way to go. All glass tanks that size are going to break your back moving them. If you are interested in my build, here it is...

its 88.5''L x 43''W x 31''H so its like 510 gallons ish.

I am using 3/4'' inch glass. For you, I would build a plywood tank like mine. Or 1'' acrylic glass? What size should he use for acrylic glass?
