I just got a baby silver arowana and i was wondering if there is anything particular i should know about this fish?

I am also getting a Red Tailed catfish anything i should about this fish?

I have read alot on these fish but i was wondering if i should know anything about these fish that would be helpful for a beginner on freshwater.

welcome to mfk by the way you should read the sticky about arowanas in the arowana section

Unless you are prepared to eventually own a 400-500 gallon tank or pond you will never give these fish what they deserve. They both can grow at least 4ft long.

How large is the tank their in? Neither fish are good beginner fish.

Both fish are capable of reaching 1' in their first 3-6 months. And do not make good tank-mates. the RTC will likely eat the arrow. Both will need large amounts of food, extensive amounts of water changes, and impressive filtration even when young to keep up with their bio-loads. Not to mention impressively sized housing as Adults. Unless you are a big DIY person, expect to spend a few grand for all of their needs. With all of this said.. Either, or can make very rewarding pets. But expect the time and expense needed to keep a Dog, or Large bird.

Very beautiful and long lived fish, nothing special to care for if you have a 300 gal or bigger and a huge food budget when mature. You might want to keep a close eye on the cat as it may eat the aro or any other tankmates.
