when very young, it's good to get them eating whatever they will eat. helps to start them on small crickets/mealworms. they love livefood. wait till the aro is 8"+ to start on pellets usually. just keep them eating is the best at this point.

ok cool thanks

Personally I would not feed anything else other then freeze dried bloodworms or broken pellets. Once it takes the pellets, you can stop feeding the freeze dried bloodworms. Found that large hikari cichlid gold pellets broken into smaller pieces works better then the small pellets. Feed the pellet and bloodworms at the same time.

yah i agree thats a fair price...you should be able to get him off live food with no problem..ive really never had a problem switching arows to different kinds of food

just traded in a bunch of fish with what i got from this 90 gallon and also picked up a 4" aro yesterday, couldnt get him to eat regular bloodworms or broken pellets yesterday so went and got him some crickets today. fed him 2 at 2 different times and after a couple minutes he ate em both each time. i do have a plan for him, my buddy is getting a 500 in june.

how many small crickets would you feed a juvy aro in a day? will continue to offer crushed pellets. ive read feed em 3x a day just not sure how much to feed em each time... not trying to hijack just figured its a similar thread so why not get some more info for the pros! thanks

Crickets are very addictive, very hard to get an aro to eat anything else after it gets the taste for crickets. I would recommend only feeding crickets once a week and only after the aro is on pellets.

ya, crickets become like crack to them and they wont stop. they imo should only be used when fear for the aros live is in due to not eating.
