silver arrowana not eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
right now hes in a 54 gallon bowfront corner aquarium i know its a lil small for him but ill be upgrading it soon (moving) his tank mates are a 2-3 inch jack dempsey, and i used to have a 12 inch tinfoil barb and 6 inch female flowerhorn but i gave away the tinfoil barb and moved the flowerhorn into another tank,so right now its just him and the juvenile jackdempsey,is it alright if ill be adding a clownloach and albino oscar cause i want them to grow up together not while the others get bigger and others still small..and ill be upgrading to a 155/265 gallon aquarium after moving before january,.

well all i can say is that aros like a more varied diet than just tilapia...you need to use more variety
also it is not unusual for an aro to go a few days with out eating and is perfectly ok, as they can go up to 2 weeks in the wild without food
they really love insects like superworms.crickets , grasshopper..and even earth worms
as far as the color red ...i have a red background on my tank so they love red and are exposed to the color and appear to be more red without the use of a fancy light
have a good one and i hope this helps

i do not claim to be a expert in any fashion but this is what ive learn't

right now he still hasnt eaten anything yesterday i tried feeding him some chopped shrimp but he wont eat it and today i left a cricket in there but i came back and its still there just floating, do they get hurt if they always bump thereself on the glass? cause mine gets startled alot esp when i turn on the lights,.heres some pictures of him and his tank

sorry i dont know how to edit so im posting again,.on the first pic he usually stays like that in the corner just staying there head near surface and half of his body is going lower into the water,.is he alright?
ph lvl is around 7.8+ no ammonia and only tankmate is a small jackdempsey that hides all day,.

sounds like he bumped his head. Silvers are jumpy and I bet he knocked him self silly. Might want to lower the water level a little. At least it will give him a little room before hitting something.
They can go a long time with out eating so don't worry yet.

if he is scared of you just sit in front of your tank when you feed the arowana. thats what i do and they only beg for food when they get use to who you are :D but good luck.

I agree. Also some kind of dither fish like Bala's are great. The fish that always swim around actually have a calming effect to the aro.

my silver arrowana is pretty aggresive i had a jardini in my tank keeping for friend and day later fins of the jardini were torn up and 1 whisker was missing,.now that jardini is doing fine,i want to add a couple of clown loaches into the tank and a oscar, :D i love those fish,i know my tank is too small for all of them but pretty soon in about a month or 2 ill be having a 265 gallon tank :D and cant wait for it.
