Help everyone, I recently bought a 3” aro and put him in a 210 (72x24x29) fish tank. I’m afraid he’s not going to eat the food I put for when during feeding time and eventually die. Is it a bad idea that he’s so small in a big tank for him at this age?

I also bought an ornate bichir and he’s about 3” too. I’m also very worried bc he’s more of a bottom feeder and I’m afraid he won’t find the food I give him. What should I do???

What food is he currently eating? How long has the tank been cycled? How long has he been in the tank?
The place I got him from has him on frozen bloodworm diet. Both the aro and bichir. The tank has been cycled for two weeks now. I check my parameters and everything is good. I put him in yesterday but he was already fed so I didn’t feed him, I also figured he would be stressed out and wouldn’t eat.

I suspect the bloodworms will get blown all over that tank before the aro finds a small amount of them to eat.Try giving it some floating pellets,at least it would eventually find and eat them.

What about the bichir?
The bichir would find them too but it is a good idea to get that young aro on some good nutritious food like the pellets so I would drop in sinking pellets in the hopes that the bichir would not eat all of the floaters.

You could feed the bichir in a dish, and the aro in a floating ring. They will quickly learn where the food is, if you are consistent about it and it will help prevent the food from being scattered.

^Good idea.....and by the way,a silver Asian aro?...can you post a few photos of it?

I’m getting mixed answers about what I should be feeding my aro. A lot of people are saying keep him on a pellet diet over live food/frozen food. I understand that I should keep him on a variety of foods but should I feed him more pellets than the rest of it doesn’t really matter as long as I switch it up.

Get the aro on bugs, small crickets are a good idea, any reptile shop will stock them.
