most baby silvers under 3 inches are doomed because of the stressful conditons they go through during shipping.

I never get them unless they have been at the lfs for a week or two. That seems to be enough time where either the weaker ones die off or they are easy to identify. Then I just pick the healthiest specimen I can find.

all depends on the health of the fish

feeders are the best food to start out with (after quarintine and conditioning)

nothing beats feeding whole animals.

I've never used live feeders/whole prey for baby aros, with the exception of pin-head crickets. I'd rather not risk introducing any diseases. They only thing they could really eat at that small size are guppies or some other fry, and I have nothing breeding and don't have the space to set up a quarantine tank for the guppies. I think that as long as they get a variety of food, they generally do well.

Oh, and IMO it definately helps to keep them warm. I never let my baby aro tanks drop below 83-86 range.

They are definately hardier at the larger sizes though, but IMO they are also keepable when young.

I have heard silvers grow faster than blacks...how much faster?
If I were to give them both the same amount of food, how much would each one grow in a month or two?

I just love aros...particularly black and silver. Would you recommend housing one of each in a large tank? (By large I mean a min. of 300 gal.)

the ones i'd be lookin' @ are roughly 10'X3'X4'

So then what dimentions would you suggest?

your not making sense

you seem to think a 300 is "roughly" 10x3x4

im saying thats not a 300 and one big ass tank!!!!!:WHOA:

but it seems that you taking it as the wrong tank size, and asknig me for the right tank size :screwy: but a 10x3x4 is almost perfect!!!

alittle clarification por favor

My appologies...I was a lil' tired when I posted that.

I see what you're askin'. So the question becomes...what size tank is it? I saw an ad in the paper about a month ago which said 300 gal for sale...yadda yadda yadda. I called the # and the guy said that it was a little over 10' long, 3' wide, and 4' deep....if this isn't a 300, what size is it (and for that matter...what are the standard sizes for a 300 gal?)

no need to agologies (they dont mean crap to me anyways, just a word to make people feel better for nothing)

im at school so i dont have the link to a calculator but when i get home ill let you know asap, but that tank has to be in the 700 gal range.

btw if that tank is cheap.......HE'S A SUCKA!!!! SNAG THAT TANK BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE DOES!!!!

youve got an open shot to the ideal arowana home bro :headbang2 :headbang2 :headbang2 :headbang2

I would have had I had the money @ the time...cheap would be considered an understatement. Try Highway Robbery...He was only askin' $1K.
Came with everything, including fish...green severms, tsn, tiger barbs, blood parots...all full grown.
I also didn't have a method to transport the thing...He lives 2-3 hours south of me and the tank would have been hanging at least 2' beyond the bed of my truck...You have no idea how upsettin' it is. I'm figuring that another person will "have" to get rid of another large tank and so I'll score then...
