i just get 2 silver dats size 5cm. they were in FW they are in a grow 50l tank and fedding Krill Maxima, bloodwormes. can i keep than for life in fw? i whant than to grow so they can go to the big tank whit the rays.
what live food can i give ,guppys ,gambusias?

They can be kept for life in FW, that shouldn't be a problem. If anything does happen, just be ready to dump some salt in there...it does wonders for them and other fish. As for live foods....they'll take anything they can swallow usually.

IMO, the silver dat is the only true brackish water dat species. They can live in freshwater but, invariably, lose their luster, grow more slowly, and are more prone to disease. These factors lead me to believe that the silver dat is best maintained in brackish conditions.

I concur w/ Phil (Oddball). Datnioides quadrifasciatus, aka "silver dat" in the U.S. and "American tiger" or "AT" in Singapore, occurs in FW to brackish conditions (SG 1.000 to 1.010). If you're going to keep silver dats in FW, I'd recommend adding crushed coral to your substrate to ensure that the pH stays alkaline. IME, they will suffer and could die if subjected to prolonged periods in soft, acidic FW.

my ph is around 7.4 . so no luck to put whit the rays :( i dont had salt to any of my tanks only if some desease happem.
is possible to had the salt in my tank . fish .4 bichir,1 parachanna ,1 carapo, 1silver, 2 rays,3 clown loches,2 plecos,2 banjos, 2 agamix,
they are realy small probly gone put than on a 55gl in BW and get some BW fishs

I bought my 2'' Silver in Nov-its now near 4''. Dats grow slow anyhow-I hear lot of conflicting advice on salt or not. Mine's totally in F/W but our local tapwater is quite hard. Its a little skittish but I love it and its far mre stable in colour than the 7'' Indo in the same tank. Eats frozen shrimp & fish
ROB

ther beavior is not equal for the 2, one goes all the tank and the other just stay under the internal filter, just go out to eat or atack any fish tha goes to is spot.
is this a normal beavior:screwy: .
they eat small peaces of turkey today, i was just trying and they eat it
