Silver dat

I concur w/ Phil (Oddball). Datnioides quadrifasciatus, aka "silver dat" in the U.S. and "American tiger" or "AT" in Singapore, occurs in FW to brackish conditions (SG 1.000 to 1.010). If you're going to keep silver dats in FW, I'd recommend adding crushed coral to your substrate to ensure that the pH stays alkaline. IME, they will suffer and could die if subjected to prolonged periods in soft, acidic FW.

gotta agree lost 2 silvers that were in real soft acidic water. the 5 in the higher ph lasted longer but a 5 star cichlid and flowerhorn took them out

so all info ive read says Silver dats belong in brackish for best results and long life...
that's so messed up cause one shop has a nive silver in fw @ about 4" with nice stripes.

Does anyone know where i can get a silver dat also known as the White Tiger....I live in Toronto and will pay shipping for anywhere....please i'm dying for one of these or two and i never see them in my area....just the crappy gold dats which are the worst fish to keep

pic of my silver. He's been in fresh all his life. He is about 10" at the moment and very healthy. I only add aquarium salt to the water. He still has his shine.

I have a silver dat in fresh water for about 1.5-2 years..Growth and appearance is normal to me, eats like a pig!It seems very healthy..
