ok so i got a silver dat today, about 2" and i need some care tips for him and feeding tips. already got him eating shrimp which i was surprised to see him do this early. im a little worried cause he has the white patches on his skin, not like ich, just little patches and at first i thought they were bite marks from the african cichlids the lfs had him with. but now he's flashing so im not sure how to cure this and what to do. i've read up, but i would like your help in how you do things and what works best for you! please anything will help at this point.

P.S. he's in a 30 gal quarantine right now. he's an oddball by my standards and will get pics when he settles in or when needed to identify the white patches. this way i can get a possitive i'd.

he looks healthy, swimming around just fine. but he is just casually swimming over to a side of the tank and bounce off, then go swim around some more. the white spots arn't like crazy noticeable, just look like even just splits in the bars where the silver isn't fully exposed, but some light coloring is showing. and he doesn't often flash, he will swim around for up to a half an hour then flash then swim around again for a while.

edit: he also likes to hang out in the current of the filter.

i just went and checked on him and the white spots are spreading, almost like lost scales

they seem to actually fluctuate. the white spots aren't so many now. its really quite confusing and nerve racking cause he's one of my favorite fish.

I would give him a little coppersafe. I have kept atleast a 25% dose in my 120 and have had no issues with it.
You should use half dose here. If it's noticeable it's a good idea to medicate.

where can i get some coppersafe? no stores around here have it.

My guess would be that it may have lymphocystis. You can also try adding some salt to the water because they tend to lean toward brackish.

i have added salt when i noticed the spots were getting bad, they haven't gotten any worse and they have if anything gotten better. but i didn't want to add to much because i didn't know if they liked salt or not. is there any other tips or care issues that you could help me out with?

that doesn't look like it, the spots are like missing scales, not anything resembling a bump or cist.

these are the best pics i could get of him while he is still gettingsettled in. im not sure if you can see the spots. he wouldn't stay still for very long.
