Oh really that's interesting. I'm surprised none of the Asians have figured out how to breed them.
There's no record of breeding them and may be that fish keepers in Asia are secretly breeding them. There is no way to sex them and dats grow slow and take a while to mature as well

Dont be discouraged by brackish water tanks. Many fish can tolerate brackish water. In some respects it is easier. I could understand if you already have fish that can't tolerate it.

I have only had ATs and one ST. So I can only compare those two. The AT is smaller and with a more elongated body. I once read somebody describe them as doglike or the dogs of the Datnioides. I thought that was an appropriate description because it fits their personality. They are scrappy and will stand up for themselves, but don't seem to look for trouble. My ST was more catlike, calm and contemplative. But sometimes it took a disliking to certain fish, which would be killed. He might like one scat but harass another. The ST also ate just about anyfish that would fit in its mouth. I lost some pricey african cichlids that way (I thought they would be too elusive). The AT only ate the feeders.

That is my experience. It would be interesting hearing how others would compare the temperaments of the different dats. Can we generalize?

i have about 20 AT's , i like to keep them eager by feeding them more, less often , its fun to watch them try and be first in the queue for food ,, they all eat pellets mainly, then lancefish, or cockle ,or krill,

the IT's will only eat bloodworm or lancefish or earh worms, but take from the hand ,

i am a bit dissapointed with the growth rate to be honest ,, i will prob sell the small AT's and put the money into ready grown ones ,

but far from dissapointed with the personalities , they are great fish

Two of my IT's will stand up for themself. They won't hesitate to beat down the Grammodes if he messes with them.

I fed them some market shrimp last night and they loved it. Two of them are eating broken up pellets....well, kind of. The other one is starving himself. Sorry you missed out on the Dats. I got mine from Pet Boutique though, I didn't know DNA had any.

Silver tigers I think are under rated. I have one , 7 inches . Its stable 24.7 all the time :D eats the most, like a hoover, and is the most active of all my tigers. check him out.

very nice AT

I lost one already. I think the loner one got killed by the two that always hung out together but not sure. It was dead when I came home.

:(:(:(
