So I am thinking of moving my Roseline sharks to my JD tank from my Oscar tank. Taking the Giant Danios back to the LFS, and getting Silver Dollar's for the Oscar tank. Are they schoolers and need a min number to feel safe? What would be a good breed to go with an Oscar?

For regular silverdollars (metynnis argenteus), spotted silverdollars (metynnis lippincottianus), tiger striped dollars (metynnis fasciatus) you can do 6 or so.
Red hooks and black bars, 3-4 is a good number because they do grow a bit bigger. Red hooks usually get up to 8-10'' (12'' is possible, but rare), wide bar silverdollars anywhere from 10-14'', and thin bars stay like metynnis size 6-9''.

Thanks for this info just what I was looking for. They are going into a 55gal with a baby oscar 6 inchish range. I just redid her aquascape and think the silver dollers and her would look great swimming around the driftwood. The Wet Spot has redhooks think ill get 3 we will see for sure when I get over there.
Tbh a 55 gallon is problematic for even spotted SD's when spooked they will swim right into aquarium glass. I have seen small ones you may consider to growout until you upgrade. I have spotted SD's in my 180 gallon and they are extremely fast but aquarium is long enough to prevent injurys.
As I mentioned in another thread, I gave away my 4 SDs because they kept banging into the walls in my 125.

I really do not understand why people attempt to keep any sort of silver dollars in 55 gallon tanks. It's just a bad idea full stop.
That's why I asked, never owning them myself before I wanted info. Now after all the great info I know not to get them for my 55gal.
