silver dollar showing agression

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They're actually schooling fish, if possible get some more.
I got 2 males and 4 females and the males are fighting eachother over the females.
The females never quarrel.
And when they have a dispute it's hard.
Scales flying around etc.
No permanent damage though.

i removed the tinfoil barb and all territorial behavier has stopped but i want to add two new silver dollars will this change anything

i just added another silver dollar but my two other silverdollars still show aggression but they only attack silver dollars they keep away from my barracuda is there anything i could do besides removeing them?

This is typical silver dollar behavior, IMO. I have ten, and they are constantly nipping each others' fins, especially when they are mating. The fins grow back quickly in good water quality. I would keep at least six. Be sure that tankmates aren't so boisterous as to really freak them out, as these are prone to running into tank walls.

I LOLed at the title of this thread...I've never heard of such a thing.

From what I can see, there really is no set time when Silver Dollars mate. It probably has to do with water changes, water temperature, etc. So, they could do this all year long -- when they're behaving this way, do you notice any color changes? Dark spots or red spots? When my SDs feel amorous, they always color up very nicely.

I agree silver dollars are teritorial, mine are and the biggest ones pick on the smaller ones
