Can anybody tell me the pro's and con's of having these two fish to have with my aro. I want to replace my oscar with one of these fish, due to his aggression towards my aro. I also want to do it before my 7 inch aro grows any bigger!

Which one would be best suited with my aro in my 180gal.?

I also plan on adding a dat. with this mix.

ive got 4 silver dollars in with my aro, havent had any problems, when i first intro the dollars into the tank they would follow the aro everywhere. also had a dat in the mix as well.

sorry i dont know anything about tinfoil barbs.

make sure the silver dollars are big enough.. I used to have 3 4inch sliver dollars in with my 9 inch green arowana and it was a nice set-up....

One thing to note for tin foils..they are turbo fast swimmers and they dart ard the tank often...so, initially, it may cause alot of fright to your arowana when the TFs sudden burst of speed when they feed in the tank...

Also, speaking from experience, TFs have those really sparkle shiny scales..which somehow...arowanas like to attack shiny fishes...I am not generalizing here..but most of the aros I keep like to attacking shiny fishes...

Yep it can be done. A friend of mine has about 15 Silver Dollars with his aro.

Any idea which one gets bigger???

Is one more prone to disease than another???

Is one perhaps more of a picky eater???

Is one more of a fin nipper than the other???

I also remember seeing a picture of what looked like a tinfoil but it had horizontal stripes on its rear fin, any idea what this fish is???

Thanks for all the gr8 info guyz! :)

The tinfoil gets to around 16", the silver dollar to around 10", I haven't had problems with fin nipping from either but I haven't kept many.
The barb looking guy with the striped tail is probably a flag-tailed procilodus (semaprochilodus theraponura) I haven't kept them but they are supposed to get to 14"

I personally find tinfoils easier to keep. Although both are extremley easy to look after my tinfoils will just about eat anything!!

And yes the fish you saw is probably a flag tail. Apparently they dont do too well in groups from what ive heard.

But ive never had any first hand experience with these fish.

Was it like this??

This a variation of the tinfoil.
