SILVER DOLLAR

Not to sure how to sex, don't eat feeders cause mouth is to small and are mostly vegitarians, also size depends on sp. and most common average around 8in.

If I remember correctly, the "hook" fin will be longer and more colorful on the males. As for size, ive seen pictures of silver dollars the size of dinner plates!

The female has more red in the anal fin (red hook) and the male may have two pronounced black dots behind the gill plate. During spawning my male's caudal fin (tail fin) will be lined w/ black and have a redish tint to it. The male also has more red in and around the gills/lower jaw.

Both my spawning females are significantly larger then the male and their vents become large and blunted while spawning.

wel out of my 6 regular silver dollar...4 of them have reddish anal fin and bigger...the other two have regular anal fin (no color) and smaller...

so the 4 are female while the rest are male? is that so?

thx in advance..

Silver dollars are nice, but best kept in a shoal(3 or 4)like thier Pacu cousins they are very skittish, when i had my dollars they would often eat pieces of shrimp that would fall to the bottom of the tank(pieces my other fish missed). But they LOVE vegetable flakes!!!
