hello

thinking of getting me some silver dollars. Problem is, I've heard they eat plants... so my question is: do they eat all kinds of plants? I've got some large cryptocoryne plants I'd like to keep...

Thankfull for answers:)

real plants are just a saled bar to silver dollars even horn wort gets eaten you'll have to stick to plastic plants with silver dollars even they get a nibble once in a while

I'm not sure about crypts, but I know anubias definitely are on the menu.

If you really want silver dollars, then get them. Just make sure they get enough plant matter in their diet. I heard u can put java fern and hornwort in. Apparently the fish don't like the taste of it. Anyway, do some research first before you get them. Good luck! ;)

If you place a good ammount of softer fast growing plants in the tank they will often feed on those instead, especially those plants that grow through the mid-water strata. I have kept smaller silver dollars with a few crypts and a lot of elodea. I did have some of the crypts damaged but the fish fed mainly on the elodea instead. The drawback to this is daily clean up of plant fragments.

Dollars + plants = food for dollars
