They work great for my large cichlids but they will destroy any live plants if you have them.

Thats the down side I guess. I have several plants in there, but the only one I dont want to lose is my apongeton, it provides good cover and dims one end of the tank.

I have 4 of them between 3-4" and they have destroyed all plants, even several anubias. Which are a tough plant. I pulled my two Anubia Gracillas' out of there so they would not get eaten all the way.

ive got 8 in a 300 gal. and initially the tore my plants a new one, even the java fern. oddly the never touched my crypts or java moss. i have since been putting a sheet of nori (dried seaweed for wrapping sushi i believe) in a veggie clip once a day. now all plants are untouched. i also feed once to twice a day with a mixture of cichlid and spirulina pellets. the silver dollars have even done the spawning dance. none of my cichlids can catch them to put the smack down. hands down the best non cichlid ive ever kept.

I once had 6 large SDs in my dovii tank.... They didn't last too long. :irked:
But that's probably the exception.

Yeah Silver dollars can take alot of crap, my jardini is always biting mine and they still survive with torn up fins and missing scales..

Salty I'll have to try the seaweed trick. I use spirulina flakes and pellets but that doesn't seem to stop them, maybe the seaweed clipped in there during the day will divert their attention.
