I'm wondering if they can be kept with some sort of maybe foul tasting plant, or maybe marimo balls, or java moss. Anything that they won't completely devour and rip to shreds?

I've heard of hornwort, java fern, anubias, and amazon swords working with silver dollars, but no guarantees, since I've also seen Anubias and Amazon swords ripped to shreds by SDs. It seems to depend on the fish.

I've always heard they don't go well together, but have no personal experience with this. As all my silver dollars were with fake plants.

Mine don't bother the crypts, nibble on the java fern a bit. I can shoot a video, I have pretty lush growth of crypts. The SDs were in the tank years before the plants were added.

So SD's don't bother cryptocorne? Hmm, thst might work. Java fern grows so fast it might be possible to be able to do it.

Java fern is generally a slow grower, but isn't particularly tasty. Crypts however are relatively soft plants and may fall victim to SDs. I wouldn't risk it to be honest

Funny, my java always grew like crazy. So we're back to just java fern. Anybody know anything else that could work? What about marimo algae, or some sort of moss?

If u do a elephant ear they'll probably ignore it,although most of the plant will be above water.....
