My LFS got 2 dats in today, and wanted to be sure they were what they said. They are labeled microlepis, but the one I purchased there back in march was labeled microlepis but was actually a silver. Have 2 6" IT's right now and want more of them.
All silvers I have seen so far have had a few thin stripes between thier thicker stripes. The dats there are about 1.5", and have 4 stripes, not including the 2 small stripes on there tail fin. They don't have the thin stripes between the wider stripes like my silver does, so I think they are golds, but wanted to know if there's a way to tell at that size.

I went back to take a picture, figured it'd be a better way to ID these. I now see they have alot less stripes than my AT, so I don't think they are silvers. One was unstable and real dark, but heres a pic of one that was more bold. Thinking maybe NTT. What do you guys think?

You are right. NTT, go buy him, and the other one too ;)

I'd like at least 3, but will still buy both. The owner really wants the 6" silver dat he sold be back, and it doesn't get along with my others, so maybe he'll take part trade....

Got money down on them, so they're going to hold them till I pick up tomorrow. Once again, they were mislabeled (Datnioides microlepis). Its nice getting a second opinion, so thank you for verifying them for me. Can't wait till they grow a little more and can throw them in with my bigger fish, in the BIG tank. :woot:
BTW, I know my AT bullied my IT's, but since the NTT tend to be less aggressive, shouldn't they have a better chance of getting along w/ the IT's?

Yep, NTT should get on well with IT.

Silvers can be aggressive after 6-7 inch, especially when feeding. So keep an eye on them.

I took my silver dat out of indo tank last week, put him in a 45g temporarily, but since finding the NTT's, I'm going to sell my silver to a friend and put the NTT's in the 45g until they get 2' bigger and can put with my Gar and IT's. Having kinda hard time getting rid of my silver, but he's just too much of a butthead to put with anything else. Don't think those little NTT's would survive with my 15" gar.....

Brought my silver to a friends house, and picked up 1 NTT. Only one. The other one died this morning at the pet store. Just my luck. The one I picked up looked stable and healthier than the other one did yesterday, so hope it will be ok. The one that died didn't look diseased, just unstable.
Any idea if the NTT's tend to be more sensitive to water quality than other dats,

I find that NTTs and ITs are somewhat fragile fish under the 6" mark.

Get the one you have eating well, and let it grow. They are like many larger predators as small fish. Not exactly fragile, but definately not the most hardy either.
