why is info being given when he already kept em before?
It is a beautiful fish that isnt discussed very often on here,I was wondering who was/is into them, other members chimed in with their own questions...and I have no problem with that.

I'd like to know this myself. Can scats be kept in fresh water their whole lives or is it absolutely necessary for them to be in brackish?

they have to have salt to thrive.

young will do okay in fresh, but as they mature, they need salt.

people try all the time to keep them in pure fresh, and all the adolesent ones that I have seen in full fresh are always dark and appear quite stressed...

I have seen a specimen over 12'' kept in full fresh its whole life with large American cichlids (Red Devil, Synspilum etc.) that had normal bright silver colouration.

Got two silvers sharing with two red scats and an AUS mudskipper in brackish (SG 1.008 at present and slowly rising with water changes) I personally think the silvers are more attractive than the reds and will probably look for two more.

I've seen reds and greens with little puffs of fungus on them and was told that its due to the salinity.

they breed in fresh water and slowly move to the ocean so it's probably best to keep themin fresh to brackish to salt as they mature. keep in minde they're used to salinity fluctuating so it's no big deal if you do a water change and dont add salt or if theres a drop in salinity

LOL Fungusy, who are you Don King?
