So I am having a bit of an issue..I added a Silver Shark to my tank earlier today and it already seems to be on its way out.

The fish was perfectly fine when I picked it. No signs of disease, etc. It was in transport for approx. 25 minutes. I acclimatised it before putting into the tank...
I had suspicions that my Blue Acara would be aggressive towards it, so I confused the Acara.
I checked on the Silver Shark about three hours later and it had a red mouth, heavy white eyes, white throughout its scales.

Can someone give me a few ideas of what might be happening...

I was on my way out as I noticed it, so all I could do was seperate the Silver Shark in case this damage was caused by another fish...I haven’t had a chance to test water parameters. I presume the water is fine as the other fish are fine.

Very disheartening. Not because of the money, but because it was such a good quality fish.
(The Silver Shark is not currently dead, it is still maintaining an upright position, but I don’t have high hopes).

Thanks.

Sorry for the loss. It could have died from. a couple of variables like you stated a fish attacking it or Osmotic Shock. Test your parameters in the future.

Sorry, I was out at dinner when I wrote up my post. So, I’ve since come home and the Silver Shark has well and truely passed the point of no return. He is upside-down, and is looking a lot worse than what he was when I left him.

I just checked the water parameters, and things seemed fine. I can never fully tell whether my ammonia is 0 or 0.25 as the colours are too close. But what I can say is, it is always that same colour, even with fresh water, straight from the tap (the test kit has not expired either).

The tank is 6ft x 1.5ft x 2ft and currently houses an Oscar, Blue Acara, Red Bay Snook, Pleco, 3 x Silver Dollars and a Convict. I wouldn’t say the tank is overstocked. I am running a AquaOne Nautilus 2700 and a Wet/Dry Overhead filter - so plenty of filtration.

Symptoms showing on the Silver Shark are red mouth, red around scales and gills, very white eyes, torn fins. As I said, this all occurred within day 5 hours. It does have the hallmarks or ammonia poisoning. But why is it that the other fish seem fine? And how is it that it occurred so fast?

What is your water change routine? How much water do you remove weekly or monthly?

Last water change was one week ago - changed about 65% - 70% of the water.

Sorry should have given you the reason I was asking first. If water isn't consistently changed in a aquarium the PH will start to decrease and the Nitrate level will be off the charts.
