Not my tank but a tank in my house has tin foils and silver barbs and the same happened with the plants getting ate except floating plants seem to last a long time. If you get a way with water change every 3 weeks im jealous. If you have a 300 tank you thought about chosing new stock if your not having much luck with silver sharks. you could house nearly anything with that size

I never had problems with water conditions some times I even left more then one month to do a water change and having no problems at all in the water. The stock I have right now are two 15 inches lemon barbs two 12 tinfoil barbs one 12 inche black arowana 10 yellow tail botia around 6/7 inches two sailfin catfish 8 inches one royal pleco 5 inches one small sailfin pleco one Black ghost knifefish 6 inches one baby red tail catfish, and I had thoes three silvers :-(

They are like irredecent sharks-- skittish as hell. Never saw an id shark without face all beat up. These fish id and silver sharks are open water fish in nature. They are found in huge schools in the wild that swim for miles at a time. These 2 in my opinnion just don't make good aquarium fish. I think roselines are a better chioce but they only max out around 7 inches or so. Try a couple of redhook silver dollars which are cool fish also.

I also think that maybe they are not good for aquarium because they always die in the same way jumping in to the top glass and killing them self that way :-/ I think you need to have some tank with no top glass just open or with some net. The thing is that I love them so much I cant have an aquarium without them, infact I already got 4 new babes :-)
