Hey all, I know you guys see and hear this all the time... But my new silver arowana still has not ate since we got her... She is about 12 inches and is very active and looks great... She has went 7 days with out food I know its probably due to the new home but still worries me... The guy we dealt at the fish store to get her has been helpful... He called the place where she came from and told us she was eating fine when she left them... He said they had her on rosies and small goldfish... I went out and got some crickets to try for the first 2 days... No interest what so ever... So then I went and got some rosies and still no interest... so then I got some hikari carnivoire floating pellets, still no interest... So went with the gold fish and I figured by now she would go nuts for them... Nothing... she would follow them for like 3 seconds and then just turn around... Well soon after the goldfish were gone... My redtail got to them first... So just wondering if you guys have any tips... everyone else in the tank are happy and eating and like i said I hope its just due to the move in to our tank... Thanks...

id give it time but im not sure how much longer it can go. is it possible for you to separate it to its on part of the tank or its own tank for a bit until its eating? If so, id leave a small goldfish or two in there with the arow over night just so it can get something in its stomach. Then get it off the feeders sooner than later. Start feeding shrimp, worms, floating pellets like you got. Hope that works out for ya.

ya, goldfish = parasites, although i feel like if the fish hasnt eaten in 7 days perhaps parasites are one of the last worries. Getting food in the fish might be concern #1. Then once its got something in its stomach, get something better in there than goldfish. Although now that i think about it, perhaps its not eating because he already has some sort of internal parasites. Perhaps using some prazi pro on the tank may help?

A 7 day fast is nothing for a silver aro. Mine took about that much time to begin accepting krill, then another ~17 days to begin accepting pellets. I would only begin to worry if it went 3+ weeks (although they can still go quite a bit longer without starving to death).

And there's no reason to start dumping chemicals into the tank, that will just stress it out, making it less likely to accept food.

thanks guys... i know feeders arent the best but she actually ate like 4 of them tonight.. she was on the move and was chasing them and sucking them down like candy... so thats a plus... i know not the best food but its something.... so next im gonna try some krill...

the more you throw in feeders, the more complicated it is going to get.

Leave her be. A month, 5 weeks, 6 weeks, she won't starve.

Then probably shouldn't be giving advise on the matter. Arowana can go quite along time(weeks) without eating. Live feeders are the worst thing to give the arowana, the more feeders fed, the harder it will to get it onto proper foods.
