  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
is it 18" wide or 24" wide once an arow hits 18" it starts to slow down in growth, it wont slow down much but it will still slow down. 18" wide tank for about a year or two (*two being max*) and a 24 would be id say 3-4 years maybe? idk thats just mo

are you serious?

maybe a year, but certainly not acouple.

Yes I am serious. It's possible that an aro may not get over 18" within 2 years.
That is also why I sad "MAX"
You really need to work on your reading comprehension. :grinyes:

if the fish reaches 18in after two years there is a problem.

otherwise

upgrade once it hits 18'' to a tank with a 24'' width

then, once the fish hits 24'' upgrade to a tank with a 36' width.

:naughty:

I say make shure you know you have to upgrade. Be prepared for a monster fish!! :)

:iagree: - except for the 18in after 2 years part

Sharing your opinion about what is best for a fish is not wrong or bad, but when someone else has a differing opinion on the subject you shouldn't call them out on it or come down on them for it. This is especially true since, at the moment, you are not following your own advice on tank size. I think you (Del) need to keep that in mind when offering your opinion on the matter. We realize that everyone has extenuating circumstances and it is a reality that sometimes people can't keep their fish in ideal tanks (everyone either has or will do it at some point), so we must take that in to account.

The more opinions on any subject, the better. It opens the door to discussion and give the original poster more information to base his final decision off of, so definately share what you feel is right to do. Just remember the bigger picture.

Del - I don't wanna be a prick, but you simply can't deny being a hypocrite.

If you cared for your fish as much as you claim to, and feel your tank is too small now for your aro, you'd find a way to get a bigger tank. Sell your existing one and get a tank 30/36 inches wide. If you don't have the money for an upgrade even after selling your existing tank, then get a part time job and save the money, or sell your arse in SF on the weekends.

Look at steve, he is younger than you and he's just got a 600g, and I'm pretty sure it's with his own money.

Knowing that I could not buy a big tank in Spain, I transported a 190 all glass tank from England to Spain on a lorry, and carried it up 3 flights of stairs to this appartment. You do what you have to.

The 3 big fish I have, Cuban gar, aro and cobra snakehead are going to outgrow this tank in a couple of years, I'll make sure I get a bigger tank before then. If I am still in Spain and can't get a big acrylic tank made here, well I'll have to build an indoor pond.

You may not have known when you boguht the aro it would need a bigger tank, but it's safe to say you;'ve known for a while right? You've had time to save some money if you wanted to, or even move out of your house.

There's no 2 ways about it, you're being a hypocrite when lecturing people about tank size.

This makes me think I can house one....I want one!

my neighbor down the street has his 26" silver aro in a 80gal long (over 6ft). i wouldn't say he's happy but more then healthy for still being in it, i keep tellin him to upgrade but i doubt he will. but my personal experience with silvers from havin them for years n years, a 180-300 is more then enough for a silver in captive. they just do not reach full length almost ever in captive.
