Is tanning essential for silvers? If you believe so how much liht do you give them? Would you powerfeed or tan?

No, you dont need it.

i don't know, but if you do try i think this is not common practice and would be something new. i you decide to go ahead with the proper procedure, please post some pics soon. i'm curious what this will look like. i think it's worth the interest

I think i would rather power feed him for size than tan him. I was just curious to see if I would be neglecting a part of his care.

you dont need to tan

i dont think silvers can tan like asian aros

Sure they can, why wouldn't they be able to? If you mean it won't give you the same results well then possibly but they should still be able to tan. I don't think they have something special about them that they can deflect UV rays. I am going to start tanning my black aro in a few weeks..

tanning is only good for asian red aros

but if you are thinking of strong lights in the tank i would try 1-2 spots lights in the hood of the tank as it MAY help to stop drop eye

not sure i understand this completely

but from the way im reading it, i think that would cause them to look down.

id be looking down too if there where afew spot lights coming down on me

I've never read or heard of anyone tanning silvers before. But I would assume that good examples would be from people who keep their silvers in outdoor ponds.
Who knows, maybe tanning might turn our silvers into a shiney platnum color.
