Since I can't sell these darn 10 gals

The glass thickness was part of the reasoning for using the wood picture frame concept. The wood will be the joint reinforcement. It would need to be a very snug fit around the glass, and it would need to be a couple inches wide to minimize the "unprotected" thinner glass.

Could always get some 1/4" acryilic and use it as a liner / reinforcement for the bottom tank.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I hate to give bad advice.

ah forgot about the height thing. i also have a 20gal long not being used, because i have no space for it. it's got 3 5gal tanks sitting inside of it as well (i have 4 empty 5 gals). had no luck selling any of them.

for now i'm just going to take apart 1 of the 10gal tanks. a friend gave me this particular one and it's hardly got silicone along the edges. he used it to keep a rat and i guess the rat got bored and chewed away the stuff. it still held water though.

Wash it before you start playing with it .

For 7 bucks (here) worth of silicone you can give it a try. Use it outside so the plants get lots of sun and you won't have to clean up the water if it should let go.

Clean the glass really well so the silicone has a chance.

Now go for it, at the very least it will make a good story either way.

taking off the trim is hard work. is there any substance that breaks down silicone sealant?

A small hand saw and some elbow grease is all I needed to take the trim off of my tank..
