I keep my eastern painted turt in a tub so i have been using a clamp on dome style lamp for the basking bulb, and have the uvb strip light sitting on the corner of the tub. Looking for a better/safer setup. I was looking at the megaray bulbs, but don't know much about them.

Any suggestions for bulb and wattage?
Thanks!

megaray. for sure. I had one a while back and my BD loved it. i have a solar glo i think its called and it seems tobe workin alright. but mega for sure

I've never used either so I couldn't tell you. I know that those powersun bulbs are made more for desert species.

Any of thouse lamps are a complete overkill for a painted turtle and wont make its enclosure better or safer. If you want to give it more uv make her a outdoor enclosure, it will make her really happy.

I have been brainstorming about keeping her outside for the summer, need to figure out how to build something secure in order to keep out the many cats and raccoons that populate the area (suburban neighborhood).

Any other suggestions, if those are impractical?

Hey krzr, you've seen my box turtle enclosure pics, right? You could make something exactly the same with a pond in the middle. To keep out cats and raccoons you could just make a wire top. I had planned on doing that but I haven't had the need to.

I had considered that design along with others, but after looking up how determined raccoons can be (opening latches etc) i do not know if its worth it. I have seen raccoons many times at night along with skunks, possums and the like.
The main problem is that i live in an apartment and i would set it up at my parents house which is nearby but i don't know how comfortable i feel about it or how elaborate i can do in terms of motion sensing lights or other deterrents.

I usually put her outside in a bin on the weekends, maybe i will just stick with that. Two days a week is better than nothing as shes doing fine inside anyways.

Thanks for the input!

Also not to mention kids...and whoever else is up to no good. ha

That's actually one of the main reasons why I was considering putting a top with a lock on my turtle enclosure. Lucky for me there aren't many kids in my neighborhood (I'm surrounded by retired seniors citizens).
