Single Cell Algae. AHHHHGGGGGG!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:clap :grinyes: I am so happy. I did a 50% water change on friday and the water was still green so I got really pissed and did a full water change, well more like a 95% water change. The water was so low the fish were literally laying on thier sides. It is now Monday (3 days later) and absolutely no reoccurance of green water.

On the flip side I'm having doubts as to whether it was actually single cell algae. I remembered that I bought some water conditioner ( I don't remember the name) a couple of months ago and when I used it a day later my water started to turn green so I did a 50% water change right away and it was gone. I think I used it again right before I started having this problem.

So I think that the conditioner is the root of the problem. There are Probably two senario's.
  1. The chemicals in the conditioner react with my tap water (or something in my tank) to turm the water green
  2. The conditioner creates a situation that promotes alge growth

Thanks for your help everyone.

also, you mUST prevent the tank from receiving sunlight from outside. doubtless this is the root of your problem sinnce green algae only proliferates in tanks that are exposed to natural sunlight.
