I would go w/ your local petsmart FH cause "low grade" or not, when they get older the classic kamfas look really nice and are super interactive. Just wait till you find a nice one.

I've actually had flower horns in the back of my mind for a while now, I've never kept one but always been curious about them. Let me just say, i know a lot of people love the massive nuchal hump (or "kok" as I've heard it called)...but i really don't like it when the males get such large humps thats its starts to look really unnatural and strange looking. But apparently I've heard that "low-grade" flowerhorns, even males, won't get the massive koks that get so big they make swimming difficult. Could a "low grade" flowerhorn be the way to go? I'm not really sure what makes a flowerhorn a "low grade" or "high grade" but there is a local PetsMart that sells flowerhorns and i was told that any FH i could buy at petsmart would be a low grade. Is this true?

agreed. im not a fan of the huge nuchal humps either. have you thought about a festae?? just saw some juvies for sale at my LFS...i want it so bad but no room for it.

why couldn't you just put a pair of midas and carpintis maybe they'll cross breed get yourself some super red texas

In a 75 gallon? That's not ideal at all. Not nearly enough space and the aggression would lead to injured or killed fish. A 75 is barely a minimum for an adult Midas alone. Best to go with one Midas as a single wet pet.

^ yeah i wouldnt dare put such large aggressive fish as a midas and tex in a 75 gallon they'd go nuts on each other real quick. I'm going to go with a nice male midas cichlid. Either that, or set the tank up native style and catch a few of the local pumpkinseed sunfish or red breasted sunfish and build a native tank around that...can't decide!
