Hey fellow MFK'ers, someone locally has a single turquoise discus for sale. I really want it, but I know they are supposed to be maintained groups. What should I do? The fish is selling for only $15 and appears to be in great health. Should I buy it, or let it slide and just buy a group from the LFS as I originally intended?

Much Thanks, Justin.

If I found one that cheap in good health I would keep him solo in a tank with angels. I currently have a new angelfish tank which is a 55 gallon and am planning on having 8 angelfish as babies and then splitting them up as they pair and grow up. Angelfish and Discus go great together from what I've read and I've actually been looking for a baby discus priced that good that I could put in with them.

You could buy both. It depends on the quality of the fish, the size, and if you want to QT him while your waiting to buy the other 4-5.

That sounds reasonable, but the only thing is that if I do that it's going to be put into a 15g by itself until further notice, which is probably late january 2012. I plan on buying my new 65g - 110g setup then.

I do have the exact same situation as you do right now. I have 8 angelfish juvies in a 29g by themselves. Only thing is that aquarium is pretty small and to me, considered heavily stocked. I am trying to get a good group of 5-6 for my future 65g - 110g.

I would leave it for someone else if you are going to put it in a 15ga by it self for that long.

That's what I was thinking. Simply because not only would it stress it out, but I think leaving it alone for that long then introducing to a group could lead to aggression problems. Thanks everyone, but I think it's going to be a no sell.
