Single Fish 75gal Ideas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:iagree:.. but seriousely... Just about any mid sized cichlid sounds like would fit the bill.. just find the "one" that you want. keep a look-out and you'll find the right fish. it's not just about what species ect.. but personality i think when you set-up a single fish set-up. I think a Fahkah puffer might fit the bill but I belive a 75 may be abit to small for one of these guys. You could deffinately do a brackish set-up and get a small group of figure 8 or spotted puffers as well for something outside the box.

i know not one fish but how about a swarm of exodons or id go a FH

what if you filled it up like half way and then built an island in the middle out of rocks and driftwood; and then every time you found a spider or a beetle or something in your house you could pretend you're a pirate and maroon it on the island for disobeying orders :) it would be like a fun game, and im sure all the bugs in your house would greatly approve of being marooned rather than squished. you could even put up a pirate flag on the wall behind the tank, i could go on and on, there are all kinds of possibilities with this idea.

I should definatly do this. lol. I could set up a throne right next to the tank and wear a crown. Maybe have a goblet and a cape as well. I'll dub myself king of the bugs.

I have a list of what I've narrowed it down to but it's kind of been overlooked. A fahkah would be sweet, but needs a 120 when all is said and done. I've had brackish before and I liked it. I sold the setup though. I would still want to do a single fish reguardless though. I'll give you guys an updated list.

Alright, the thread got a little off track so here's a current standing of what I've narrowed it down to.

Flowerhorn
Festea Midas Hybrid
Gulper Cat
Red Devil

The FH I would want to be a really cool one. Not a standard pet store buy.
The Hybrid is available to me at my LFS and I'm just super curious as to how it will look full grown.
Gulper cats are just awesome and and would be a cool "garbage disposal" for my fish room. The 75 will be the first tank for the room.
And as for the RD, I would want a cool color combo (white wish orange markings. something like that) So I guess that would bring up another question that I have. At what point to RD's change coloration (if the certain specimin does) as far as size? What should I look for.

I'm super indecisive about this particular tank for some reason so all your input has been very helpful.

Flowerhorn - dime a dozen, certified tank bangers, nice colors out there.

Festea Midas Hybrid - more or less a FH, a gamble but.. that part of the intreague isn't it?

Gulper Cat - rarest of the species, catfish so lots of filtration, and when it's not eating just sits there pretty much.

Red Devil - Tank banger typical larger aggressive cichlid.

there is my brains analyzation of the fish. and my not being big on hybrids I would choose from those the Gulper.

Tilapia buttikoferi or a caprintis "escondido" for sure!

The carpintis (escondido) will be a beautiful blue hue, and nice shape.

The buttikoferi (esp. if it's a male) will get real big, beautiful hump, and nice coloration, and clearly will be a headbanger!

My vote is the buttikoferi

yeah I still was kind of teetering on the buttikoferi.

I had a red devil, pretty personable fish to have. That would be my fish of choice from your list. I think it would be cool to do a bagarius bagarius tank(mini goonch). The festae is a gamble if you want a female as mentioned above, but males don't look terrible. Gulper cats are cool but are a pretty penny and look pretty cool. Gulper would be my second choice.
