Single fish in a 40 ideas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Convict, Salvini, Sajica, Blood Parrot, Honduran Red Point, Firemouth, Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, Bonsai Flowerhorn. Hard to think of some that aren't too large or too small but are also aggressive.

Suprised chris didn't recommend a kirin parrot fish and it would be perfect. I'm trying to get one as we speak :) other ideals:

Convict (male or pair)
Keyhole
Jewel
Kribensis
Ram

And I could go on especially if you wanted a single and maybe some tetra/barbs.

Maybe not what you're thinking of but if I was gonna put 1 fish in a 40 under almost all circumstances it'd be a GULPER! lol.

In a 40 breeder I would go w/ 1 or 2 electric blue jack dempseis. They are more active when theres more than 1 and less aggressive than normal jd.

You could go w/ a flowerhorn too if you want more of a wet pet, doesnt have to be short body. As long as you have excellent filtration and lots of water changes, the depth will be nice for him.

my god someone actually suggested aro? my 220 is too small for one so I highly doubt someone with a 40 can house one.

You have lots of options, anything that gets to around the 10" mark would live fine in there alone. I would go with parachromis species other than Jag, Jag gets far too big for a 40. Severums are cool fish too, they come in a variety of colours and morphs and are full of personality.

or just do what I did, get a bearded dragon in there.
