Single predator for a 220.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they range from 10"-18", I would say 220 is ideal regardless of the potential smallest size :)

Most cichla will hit 20inches atleast.

Kelberi probably 18-20. They require space.

Ya know what's better than one predator? A school of them!

A group of pink tail chalceus, they are AWESOME :D

I'm with you on that one hendre, beautiful fish, i have a single one that's pushing 9" now. A school would be great but as they frequent the upper reaches of the tank the rest of his tank would look a little bare unless he got some bottom / mid water species too.

Used to have one. Glorious fish but needs its space, very zippy

What's the dimensions of the tank? I ask as I have a 220g 7ftx2x2 which as caused me issues due to the relatively small width. I have gone with the fahaka option... but always interested in new ideas.

Just an FYI, your 7x2x2 is actually considered a 210. A 220 is 6x2x2.5. The standard width of a 220 is most commonly 24", but I have heard of a few that were 30" wide and only 24" tall.

Just preferring a single fish. I already have a friendly 220. Wanting a more aggressive fish. Thought about a dovi.

I'm personally of the opinion that a 220 is too small for a Dovii for it's whole life. I mean it would certainly be fine for some time, probably a couple of years.

What about Nandopsis Haitiensis?

both a wolf fish and dovii get much too large for that size tank, both need atleast a 350 (preferable more) to live comfortably. A kelberi could work well, but honestly i wouldnt put one in that size tank, so would a black nasty, or female festae (or a small male). I believe theres also a few birchirs/eels/pike cichlids that would fit the bill.
