Im thinking about getting a young piranha for a 55g. Will it be ok for life or will I need a upgrade? Are there any smaller species that can live in a 55g for life if RBP's cant.
Thanks

So would they be good there for about 3 or 4 years?

not sure on the specifics, but yeah...somewhere in that ballpark I think. Other P guys will chime in on more exact time frames.

if you haven't bought the tank, i suggest you skip the 55 and go straight to the 75 or even a 50 breeder over the 55

Ok thanks, I unfortunatly just found out in my state it is illegal to sell or possess them. I had read some incorrect information so I am going to have to decide on some other stocking ideas. Im looking at a silver dollars. And yes Im in NC.

Just a forewarning, Not to derail you or anything.
If you are just getting into P's I would really suggest you either go with another specie or have a schoal of more than 3. RBP are extremely shy and are only active when in numbers.
55 is really too small for any real piranha. Exodens are always an option. Vicious toothed tetra's. You could get a school of maybee 20 in a 55gal. I think you would enjoy the tank alot more. Just a suggustion :D. best of luck
