I would day a 55 gallon would be minimal for a marine betta, they get rather large. Also cowfish need a bigger tank than 30 gallons. Your best bet would be some type of angler. Like the wartskin angler.

Dwarf lionfish would work but are also not very active IMHO.

All right!
Thanks for the input.

a black spotted boxfish might work though (a 55+ would be ideal)

Those are all cool.
I'm really loving that Fu Manchu lionfish! How often are they available, ad for how much?

i can get one for around 45 up here, but prices are different where u live.

I too have a 29 gallon tank as was thinking about doing a SW tank and the best advice that I had gotten about simple maintenance and high success rate was to think about the SW tank as a complete ecosystem. Live rock, high water flow and a cleaning crew (snails and crabs) that way you can get different kinds of fish over time and they will be pretty happy . That and the fish wont look so lonely and the whole tank would be pretty active.

I then aquired a 55 gallon and went with Mbunas so now people who dont know much about fish think I have a SW aquarium but for 1/4 the cost. Dont wanna steer you away from SW but its an addictive and expensive hobby. Higher cost setting up initially will give greater success in the long run otherwise you may run into some weird problems in the future.

Cool.
I'll check out my LFS's saltwater section the next time I go up.

Thanks for all the advice!
I'll be sure to keep that in mind.

I'm still open to any suggestions.
How many fu manchu lions could I put in there? Just one?

Okay, so I was just looking around some more, and I think I found a list of things I might be interested in.

-Dwarf Fuzzy Lionfish
-Fu Manchu Lionfisk
-Sargassumfish (Histrio Histrio)
-Longnose Hawkfish
-Blood Red Hawkfish
-Debelius' Reef Lobster

Any stocking suggestions?

u might be able to do a fu manchu and a longnose hawkfish in that tank.

Okay.
What about any inverts? Would they be eaten?

Any more suggestions are okay too.

might be able to do some large turbos, shrimps and hermits will be eaten.

Turbos?
Sorry for my ignorance, but I don't exactly know what turbos are.

Never mind, I found out that they are snails.
Could I do a pair of fu manchu lions and a longnose hawkfish for the tank, or would that be pushing it? How big of a tank would I need for that stocking?
