I'm just curious to know if anyone has had success with this? Particularly with the larger, more aggressive cichlids like Midas', devils, jags, etc.

If you've had success with this; was the community of fish larger than the wet pet? Smaller? More aggressive? Less?

I'm thinking about trying out one of my guys from his 75 to a 220 but wasn't sure.

Your asking for trouble adding stuff now. Maybe could try some ditherish fish tin foils or silver dollars maybe some real big loaches but that could be an expensive experminet. I doubt you'll have any luck with any other cichlids.

Depends on the size of the rest of the stock. Those fish are not friendly by any means, and anything smaller after being alone will probably get beat up

I have not tried. But what fish is it? What are in the 220? Might depend on what he/she is like, compared to the community and their aggression, sex, behavior.

The wet pet is a Midas. Initially, I didn't think it could work but a couple of weeks ago I needed to "temporarily" put in a 3 inch flowerhorn and a 4 inch red devil into his tank because they were terrorizing the stock in another tank I had. I know doing that alone was a huge risk but the Midas' tank has a lot of caves and hiding spaces that the smaller ones could fit into that he couldn't.

Anyway, every so often the barred midas would show aggression and during those times the other 2 fish would be peacefully hiding in their logs. In fact, at times it would even look like the devil would try to test the midas to see what type of reaction he would get. Kind of like a little kid playing with fire. Then, there would be moments (more often than not,) where the midas would be completely nostalgic and he would let the other 2 fish pretty much do whatever they wanted in the tank.

With that said... that's the only reason why the idea is crossing my mind... otherwise, I would have already cancelled it out.

I tried doing it with my big (12" when he passed) Texas hybrid with no success. He beat up everything to include a 8" jag which surprised me because the jags are tough. I spent a lot of money buying multiple small and large cichlids with negative results. But like they say, every fish is different. Good luck.

Depends on space, really. I do it a lot.

A must ist that fish in comm are comparable in size and character. Firts days wet pet gets trahed and then shows or not its character.

Sometimes it is the wep pet who needs rescue, some times hou get a new wet pet that you have to sabe from the comm, sometimes it works for ever.

OBSSERVATION, CLOSE OOBSERVATION IS THE KEY. ALLWAYS DO IT ON WEEKENDS.

Of course i am talking amphilophus ( my way also works with jags ) but if we we talking Dovii, for instance, as a wet pet, or a mean FH i would say no....
