the hybrid fish in my avatar is a jagXtexas.he seems to leave smaller fish alone.i put a bad-ass female salvini who killed her mate in with him.the tank has a root hiding structure that he can not get into.2 weeks went by then i started to see the salvini.she was accepted maybe cause it was female? they were tankmates for 3 months before i lost her during the 8 day power outage.crazy hybrid still going strong in his 75.maybe sometimes the gender makes a difference for it working out, among other factors

My jag texas killed the escondido female in the firts night....after having had her separeted by eggcrate for 15 days

Of course i am talking amphilophus ( my way also works with jags ) but if we we talking Dovii, for instance, as a wet pet, or a mean FH i would say no....

Agreed. My old solo 13"-14" midas male slowly accepted a female, bonded and then both were moved into my 300 gallon with a 14" jag pair, flagtail and a small male trimac (he will go in the future).

I would have never mixed anyone with my dovii.

i did it a few times. Most recently the jag in my avatar. he is old, big and mean. Lived his whole life by himself. one day i decided he needed to adapt or he needs to go. threw him in my all male ( there is actually a female mayan in there who has never attempted to breed with anyone)community tank which had a bunch of trouble makers that were kept in line by a giant chocolate cichlid. he submitted to the chocolate for two whole weeks and then killed him one day when i was at work. now he is top and everyone gets along. The price was my beautiful Chocolate. but my community is actually quite pleasing now

Chocolate would never be a match for that lone warrior once used to the new settings....

sorry for the droplets everywhere i believe it was water change day. wow the chocolate was smaller than i remembered...lol. that was a terrible idea
