Siniperca Chuatsi - Mandarin Perch

I have mine in an 80 degree tank and he's doing fine. It's a riverine fish so I just provided for a lot of water flow. I'm moving about 1100 gph on the 180gal it's in.

Yes they are a cold water fish and do prefer a temp that you have stated, but for short periods of time can be kept in warmer water. The thing that stop most people keeping them in warm water is the lack of oxygen, but if your tank is well oxygenated you should not have a problem.

How is the water movement in your tank?

I have two 801 powerheads in there, with an XP3 water spray, and two double sponges thats has a lot of aeration. I am thinking of moving them outside where the water temps is 55 degrees.

That sounds good ,but also keep in mind that they will require less food as the temp goes down, and along with that so will the growth.(BTW I am talking about the lower temps, anything around 60 degrees and up will not affect the appetite that much.

i'll be getting a big 12-13" one this sun...

heard they will suck the eyeballs of tankmates... anyone has exp this?

:lol2: I dunno about sucking the eyeballs, but my friend's 5 incher ate a 4" stripe bass. The perch didn't die, but it appeared as if it was going to blow up. Little fishies in your tank, watch out. And I am not joking :)

The eating capacity of this bugger i know... no worries there.

more worried of it being pummelled in my tank. If it does suck eyeballs, i dont want my aros to go blind.

I thought "sucking eyeballs" was a figure of speech. Never ever heard of the Chinese Perch sucking eyeballs, I dont see how it could...hope I don't get to see it first hand.

I have never heard of that happening. As they get bigger the size of fish they are able to eat in comparison to their body size reduces. Usually when they are older they will be fine with fish half their size(that is if the tankmate is high bodied, if the tankmate is long and slender I would up that to 3/4 of the perches total body lenght.)
