Sinkers or Floaters...

I have a 2-2.5" Red Dragon FH. He will only eat sinking food. I also have some grand sumo pellets... and well, it floats. Any crafty ideas to get this stuff to sink or get this guy to come up and get it. Hes active and will eat blood worms like a beast but they are getting blasted around the tank by the power head. He loves hikari cichlid gold. I can throw the grand sumo in there but it will just end up in the overflow. Thoughts, suggestions, and/or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Most fish wont really trust the surface until they get a little use to it. When i switched from hikari small sinking pellets, my fish had to learn that if they want food it floats in 1 side of the tank. This is good so you can see nothing gets stuck anywhere to decay. A good way to persuade them is to drop it in a HOB filter waterfall stream then they have to chase it upwards if they want it. It almost forces them to come to the surface.

Just turn off the filter while you feed him.

LOL, if you think that's a problem. I found that most FH rather eat on the surface. If it only eats food that sinks, get them some NLS.

Is there other fish in the tank? If there are other fish in the tank your flowerhorn is worried about another fish coming up and nipping it's tail. If your flowerhorn is kept alone just stop feeding him sinking pellets. If he gets hungry he will start eating the floating ones.

Good advice. I tend to usually feed sinking stuff to finicky fish but after awhile I will get pissed if they're not eating floating stuff and starve them until they eat what I want.

Starving is also a good idea if you want them to eat how you want it. FH will get stubborn the more you give it the way they want.

Very true. Flowerhorns think they're the **** compared to other fish sometimes you have to let them know what's up and who's boss.

Yup, have to treat them like how you treat a dog. Just that you keep them inside the tank with water and don't feed them dog food. Hehehe.

Don't feed him for 3 or 4 days, then add the food you want him to accept. Don't worry, He won't starve. Good luck
