I was wondering if any of you guys have any secrets about sinking a piece of driftwood. It is still fairly new, its only been floating for a week. I can't even hold this thing down with 2 pieces of slate screwed to it, well not the pieces of slate i have anyway. Any tips?

Put one end in the gravel and the outher end against the tank top... so its jammed and is under water 24/7 thats what i did and in about 3 weeks it should be water logged

Maybe i just have to tie a big rock to it for a while? Fishing line probably?

That's how I do it. But be careful and attach it thoroughly, or the wood might break your canopy if it breaks lose and shoots towards the surface.

I also suggest to do an MFK search on that topic, lots of great posts have accumulated here on sinking driftwood.

I usually get a piece of slate from a nursery and use a stainless screw. I drill a hole through the slate and screw the drift wood to it. You can then sink it to the bottom and cover the slate with gravel. It works great, and the slate is thin so you can't even see its there.

this wood has so much boyancy that it took about 25 lbs of lace rock tied to it to keep it under water. this is rediculous! hopefull some day it will sink on its own.

i tried to get my driftwood waterlogged for about 2 weeks...so finally i just ended up screwing a piece of pressboard to it and covering it with rocks..which also produced a nice rockpile for cover..it worked out rather nicely

yeah, i've had some pieces that still didnt sink after about 6 months, others sink in a matter of weeks, depends on the piece of wood.
