Sinking Driftwood

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm going to stop in at the LFS i purchased it at after work to ask about it. Also could anyone tell if it is in fact "driftwood" from a picture? i'll also try and post a picture of it in this thread when i get home.

If purchased from an LFS you can generally assume it's safe. Suitable driftwood looks washed-out, you can see the wood pattern. Bark is a good sign of non-suitable wood. Give it some time to waterlog  My big piece took 2 months to lose buoancy completely.

i stopped in at the LFS on my way home and was assured that it is in fact "driftwood" he did point out that most of that type of wood comes with suction cups on it because it does take longer to become waterlogged. so for a while i will just have to keep the rocks tied to it. doesn't look the best but eventually they will come off.

yeah, i've had some pieces that still didnt sink after about 6 months, others sink in a matter of weeks, depends on the piece of wood.

this is true:grinyes:

ya i got a stump in my tank...it wont sink....my glass cover is holding it down though....so basiclly i cant remove the glass cover on that side...lol
